Free Dental for Kids (Medicare)

The Child Dental Benefit Schedule (CDBS) is an Australian Government program that helps eligible families with the
cost of basic dental services for children aged 2 to 17 years. It is part of the Medicare system and aims to ensure
that children can access important dental care, including preventive treatments, in a cost-effective way.

Your child may be eligible for the CDBS if:

  • They are between 2 and 17 years of age.
  • They are eligible for Medicare.
  • Your family meets certain income-based criteria and receives a specific type of government support (such as
    Family Tax Benefit Part A).

How to Check if Your Child is Eligible:

  • Visit the MyGov website or call the Medicare general inquiries line at 132 011.
  • You can also check eligibility by logging into your Medicare online account or by asking us at the clinic.

The CBDS covers a range of essential dental treatments, including examinations and check-ups, preventive services
such as cleans and fluoride treatments, fillings, extractions, x-rays (if needed), fissure sealants and more!

The CDBS provides up to $1132 over two calendar years. This amount can cover a variety of dental services, but
keep in mind that if your child reaches the $1132 limit before the two years are over, you may be required to pay out-
of-pocket for any additional dental treatments.

To use the CDBS, simply inform us at the time of booking your appointment. We will verify your child’s eligibility for the
scheme before treatment begins and ensure that your child’s treatments are covered under the CDBS.

CDBS can only be used for treatments provided by a dentist who participates in the program (such as our clinic).

For more details on the CDBS, or to check your eligibility, visit the official Department of Human Services website at

you.
