Restoration – Fillings
The most common way to restore missing tooth structure is with a filling (restoration). At our practice, we use composite fillings exclusively. Composite fillings are tooth-coloured, providing a natural appearance and blending seamlessly with your existing teeth. They’re durable, highly effective, and ideal for restoring both front and back teeth.
Why We Only Use Composite Fillings
We don’t use amalgam (silver) fillings for a number of reasons, the main one being that amalgam fillings can expand and contract with temperature changes, which can cause the surrounding tooth to crack or weaken over time. Composite fillings and crowns are used to avoid this problem, offering a safer, more reliable solution.
When Fillings Aren’t Enough
If there isn’t enough tooth structure left to support a filling, a more extensive restoration, such as a crown, might be needed. Crowns are custom-made to cover the entire tooth, restoring its shape, strength, and function.
